When I lived in Chicago 13 years ago, my best friend at the time asked me to help her start a non-profit organization. I said “sure” even before I knew what we would be working on, because I had deep faith in the interest and activism of my best friend.
“So what are we doing?” I asked.
“We’re going to start an urban agriculture project on the North side of Chicago to help build a regenerative food system.”
“Ok… so what’s an urban agriculture project and what’s a regenerative food system?”
I would come to find out urban agriculture is a form of farming in an urban environment — so we had a “farmette” which is a small backyard style farm with land to grow produce and raise farm animals.
